Privacy Policy

1. Who we are

LifeMapping is operated by Renjie Pan in Australia. This policy covers the app, lifemapping.me and our support service. For privacy questions, contact [email protected]. The app is intended for adults aged 18 and over.

2. Local records and permissions

On your iPhone, we process location coordinates, times and related measurements to record journeys and display explored places, milestones and memories. Continuous background recording requires Always Location and Precise Location permission.

Photo access is optional. With permission, the app can read accessible photos and metadata, such as capture time and location, to match them to journeys on-device. Declining photo access does not prevent location recording. You can change permissions in iOS Settings; withdrawing permission does not automatically delete existing records.

We do not keep server copies of your complete journeys, photos or journal, sell personal information, or use that content for advertising or AI training.

3. Information processed online

  • Maps: Apple map services may receive queried areas, coordinates, search terms and IP addresses. Station recognition may query a candidate journey's endpoints in the background without adding your name, full route, photos or journey timestamp. This does not make coordinates anonymous. See Apple Maps & Privacy.
  • Analytics and diagnostics: With your opt-in, we plan to collect app openings, session duration, feature interactions and necessary crash diagnostics—not coordinates, routes, place names, photos or journal content. Technical information may include app/OS versions, device model, a random installation identifier and connection IP; it is not necessarily anonymous. You can disable optional analytics without losing core recording.
  • Website and update checks: Providers may process IP addresses, request times, app or browser versions and security logs to deliver and protect services. The website saves your theme preference in browser local storage.
  • Support: Emails provide your address, message and chosen attachments for replies and troubleshooting. Gmail and other email services process messages; your journey database is not attached automatically.

Analytics and diagnostics Apple provides under your iOS analytics settings are separate from our optional analytics. See Apple App Analytics & Privacy.

4. Purposes, providers and international processing

We process this information to provide features, respond to support, improve reliability and protect services. Under applicable law, the relevant basis is necessary contract performance, consent, proportionate security-related legitimate interests or a legal obligation. Accepting the Terms is not consent to optional analytics.

Necessary information may be processed by providers or lawfully disclosed to advisers or authorities. Providers acting for us must be appropriately restricted; Apple may be independently responsible for its services. We and providers may process information outside your country, with lawful transfer safeguards where required. Actual analytics and hosting providers, regions and relevant safeguards must be disclosed before activation.

5. Retention, deletion and backups

Local records remain on your device. The first release offers no complete backup or export and does not guarantee recovery. Delete App in iOS removes app-local data; Offload App may retain it. Original photos and existing system backups are not deleted this way, and withdrawing permissions does not erase history.

For records under our control, retention is: support emails up to 30 days after closure; raw analytics, crash reports, ordinary service logs and non-identifying aggregate statistics up to 30 days. Necessary legal obligations, actual disputes or security incidents may justify limited exceptions.

Disabling analytics stops future optional uploads; you may email us to request deletion of information already received. We cannot remotely recover or erase your local journal.

6. Security, rights and policy updates

The local database uses iOS file protection. Security also depends on your device, passcode and backups; absolute security is not guaranteed.

Depending on applicable law, you may have rights to access, correct, delete or port information, restrict or object to processing, withdraw consent and complain to a regulator. Email us to exercise these rights. We respond within applicable deadlines with necessary, proportionate verification. We cannot provide a server copy of journeys never uploaded and will not penalize you for exercising your rights.

Contact us if someone under 18 has supplied personal information to us. Policy revisions will be dated, with appropriate notice of material changes. Where consent is required, continued use will not replace it.
